Worship at 11: 00 a.m. in the fellowship hall. Choir practice at 9:30 a.m. Join us for coffee and cookies in the fellowship hall. Our Christmas Eve Offering totaled $13,000. Reaching Avery Ministries (RAM) will distribute this money to provide emergency heat and electricity to those in need in our county. Ram is receiving 20-30 requests for assistance per week at this time. Thank you to all who contributed to this important CPC mission.
Later this month, we will be honoring our Session Members from the Class of 2023 who have finished their terms: Carroll Berkley, Linda Drivas, and Gene Hodges. The Nominating Committee will bring a recommended slate for the Class of 2026 when we hold a congregational meeting in the next few weeks.
The session will meet this coming Tuesday, January 16, 3p.m., in the fellowship hall.
Our January Potluck Luncheon will be held after worship on Sunday, January 21. Soup and chili will be served. Bring a salad or dessert to share.
The Knitting and Crocheting Group will be meeting in the fellowship hall on Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. this winter. A great time to get out of the house and join in any craft you want to work on. The fellowship is wonderful and there are always goodies to munch on! For more information, contact Janis Kenyon: 828-898-3339.
Winter Weather Cancelations for Sunday Services. If we are unable to meet for Sunday worship this winter, there are several ways to find out before you drive to the church. The phone greeting will be updated to provide information, 828-733-1913. The information will be posted on the church’s website, https://www.crossnorepresbyterianchurch.org/ and on our Facebook page, Crossnore Presbyterian Church. We are compiling a winter email list to use to notify people of cancellations also. If you wish to be put on the winter email list, please let Ashlyn know by emailing
Do everything in love. ~ Corinthians 16:14
Something to keep in mind on snow and icy days: If the main entrance up the hill to the church is icy, go to the 2nd entrance (coming from Pineola and Crossnore on 221) and go up the road and around to the church
Welcoming Diane Rydell, our Interim Director of Music: With Kathy Hutcheson’s retirement at the end of December, we now welcome our new music director, Diane Rydell. She is no stranger to our congregation; she substituted for Kathy Hutcheson when needed and is a member of our church choir. Diane attended schools in SC
(Converse) and New York City (Manhattan School) for her Masters. She moved here to be closer to family; her mother and two brothers in Boone. She and her husband, Stephen, bought the music store in Boone and it became the Rydell Music Center, which they ran for 27 years. Diane was the Interim music director in NYC at Bethany Reformed Church for a year. She became the Organist/Accompanist/Music Director at Banner Elk Presbyterian Church for almost 30 years and “retired” in 2021. Since then, she has been a part of our church as an organist, substitute choir director, soloist, and a member of our church choir. We warmly welcome you, Diane, to your
new calling.
Feeding Avery Families needs volunteers to help distribute food on Wednesdays. Please check out their volunteer page: feedingaveryfamilies.org.
Volunteers are also needed at Reaching Avery Ministry (Ram’s Rack) next to the Dollar General in Newland. They really need help from volunteers to assist in the thrift store. You can show up and they will put you to work! Mon-Fri: 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Sat: 9 a.m.- 3 p.m
